For the sowing seed of the maize varieties of Nordic Maize breeding, it is possible to make this in the Netherlands. Where for the seed production of later varieties one has to move to warmer countries such as France, the seed for the really ultra early maize hybrid in the Dutch climate is ripe in time to get off the land without structural damage.

JOY

JOY is an ultra-early maize variety that combines earliness with yield. Joy is a four-way hybrid of flint and dent lines with a diverse genetic background. This results in a robust variety that can perform well under a variety of conditions. The sowing seed of the Joy is of very good quality with a high germination power.

  • Earliness FAO 140

  • Good early development, even under cold conditions

  • Solid

  • High starch content

  • Fits as very early silage maize and as early grain maize

  • For late sowing until June 20th Sow in early May - harvest in mid-September

  • Very suitable for various front and back crops

The seeds of the Joy are both conventional and organic available

Ambient

Ambient is the earliest ultra early maize variety. Ambient is a three-way hybrid of flint and dent lines from a diverse genetic background. This produces a robust, extremely early variety that can perform well under a variety of conditions. The seeds of the Ambient are of very good quality with a high germination capacity.

  • Earliness FAO 120

  • Good early development, even under cold conditions

  • Solid High starch content

  • Fits as very early silage maize and as early grain maize

  • For late sowing until June 20th Sow in early May - harvest in early September

  • Very suitable for various front and back crops

The seeds of the Ambient are both conventional and organic avaible

FLYNT

FLYNT is a new ultra early maize variety with very good nutritional value and health. FLYNT is a modified single cross and consists mainly of, as the name suggests, a flint genetic background.

  • Earliness FAO 115

  • Good early development, even under cold conditions

  • Firm - very good fusarium resistance (8.5 *)

  • High starch content (102 *) and high VEM (101 *)

  • Fits as very early silage maize and as early grain maize For late sowing until June 20th

  • Sow in early May - harvest in mid-September

  • Very suitable for various front and back crops

The seeds of the FLYNT will be conventional in 2021 and also organic available from 2022. (* = source UUVM 2021 - WUR)

FORTARIS

FORTARIS has been specially selected for BIO cultivation. Fortaris has a high TKW and can therefore be sown deeper to prevent bird damage. FORTARIS forms deep roots and can recover well after hoeing. The sturdy stem makes FORTARIS also suitable for mixed cultivation with, for example, French green beans. Fortaris provides grains with a fast and easily digestible starch. A thinner sowing density of +/- 90,000 seeds / ha can give a higher cob share.

• Robust 3-way hybrid thanks to a broad genetic background.
• Earliness FAO 180.
• Very good initial development, also under cold conditions.   Quickly close the crop in line.
• Firm, suitable maize variety for mixed cultivation with, for   example, French green beans.
• Average VEM and starch content.
• Large seed promotes smooth germination and emergence.   Deep sowing possible.
• Vigorous against birds, wireworms and weeds, even under   low phosphate availability.
• Long-lasting leaf health/Stay-green.

Conventional and organic seeds are available from Fortaris.

Empower

Empower is also a new ultra early maize variety. Empower scored the highest starch levels (103) and VEM (102) in the ultra-early official variety research of Wageningen-UR.

  • Earliness FAO 150

  • Solid

  • High starch content

  • Fits as very early silage maize and as early grain maize

  • Sow in early May - harvest in early September

  • Very suitable for various front and back crops

The seeds of the Empower are conventional available

OPPIDO

Maize variety OPPIDO is a new variety that is the first maize variety in the EU to undergo official organic variety testing. The variety was developed in the Northern Netherlands. OPPIDO is ultra-early (FAO 170) and combines this earliness with a good maize yield and quality.

In central and southern NL, the variety fits perfectly in crop rotation because it also reaches the maximum yield, ds% and starch content with a later sowing.

Due to a smooth ripening on the grain, the variety can also be used as a grain or CCM / MKS. The OPPIDO is strong against ripening diseases and sturdy. This makes the variety well suited for mixed cultivation with, for example, French green beans.

  • Proven in official organic variety research

  • Healthy (organic) seed with a high DKG produced in the Netherlands

  • Deeper sowing against crows is easily possible due to germination and DKG of the seed

  • All-round 3-way hybrid with a broad genetic background

  • Very sturdy. Suitable maize variety for mixed cultivation with, for example, an early French green bean

  • Good combination between earliness and yield

  • Above average protein content

  • Rapid youth development

  • Good plant health during ripening

  • Rapid dry-down of the grain

  • Above average cell wall digestibility and starch content

Organic and conventional seeds are available from OPPIDO.
